Here are some suggestions for keeping up and/or improving student skills over the summer:
- Read, read, read! Listen to audio books and read aloud whenever possible.
- Review Math
- ALEKS Math-Fortis Academy will be using ALEKS math to supplement math curriculum for 3rd-12th grade. ALEKS is a great way for students to continue to develop their math skills over the summer. If you are interested in ALEKS you can either choose a subscription length that covers our break, or choose a subscription that will cover most/all of next year as well. - The Singapore Math Primary Mathematics US Edition Extra Practice books are an excellent resource for reviewing all that was taught in A and B this year. Christianbook.com.
- Write in a personal journal about things you do over the break. Write down your thoughts, things you do and experience, and any new things you learn or want to learn. Prayers and favorite Bible verses are great things to write too!

THIS WEEK:
Monday, May 6 - 5th Grade Graduation, 1:45-3:00 p.m. (note the time change) in the sanctuary.
Wednesday, May 8 - Pizza day, class party, end-of-year program (1:30 p.m.), and LAST DAY OF SCHOOL!
HISTORY:
- Know the important names and figures from Texas history through the Civil War.
- Be able to identify the six flags that flew over Texas
SCIENCE:
- Assess mastery of Unit 6, part 2 concepts.
- Assess mastery of the major systems of the body and the components of blood.
MEMORY WORK:
Science: Students have science memory work that corresponds to each unit in the book. Unit 6 is broken into two parts. Students will need to know the first five body systems and the bones for the first test, and the other information for the last test:
Body Systems:
6. Circulatory system - Carries materials to and from cells throughout the body (heart and blood).
7. Respiratory system - Delivers oxygen into the blood stream (nose, trachea, lungs).
8. Digestive system - Breaks down food so body can use its nutrients (mouth, stomach, intestines).
9. Urinary system - Removes waste materials from body (kidneys, bladder).
10. Immune system - Defends the body against disease (lymph nodes).
Components of blood:
1. Red blood cells - Have hemoglobin to carry oxygen
2. White blood cells - Help body fight disease
3. Platelets - Tiny fragments of cells that help stop bleeding
4. Plasma - Liquid portion of the blood
