SENDING A PDF IF YOU HAVE AN IPHONE

1. Open the Notes app (it comes standard on iphones)
2. Click on the "write" icon in the lower, right-hand corner. It looks like a square with a diagonal stick in it.
3. Click on the camera icon.
4. Click "scan documents."
5. Take a picture of the first page.
6. Drag the dots on the corner of the frame to adjust scan size if necessary.
7. Click on "keep scan."
8. Repeat for the remainder of the pages.
9. When you are finished, click "save" in the bottom, right-hand corner of your screen.
10. Next, hit "done" in the top, right-hand corner.
11. Click on the send document icon in the top, right-hand corner (looks like a rectangle with an arrow pointing up.)
11. Choose the email option, and send it to me: gallan@fortisacademy.net

There may be a similar way to do this on an Android, but I'm not familiar with it. If anyone knows, please share!

9:00-9:45 a.m. - Morning Webex meeting. We will have a book discussion about Ch7-15 of The Secret Garden. Students should bring:

12:30-1:00 p.m. - Afternoon Webex meeting. I will talk to the students about how to write their bibliographies and they can share the Escher-type designs they created. Students should bring:
* Escher designs they created (this was an optional assignment)
* Information (sent via email) about the bibliography.

2:30-3:00 p.m. - Optional Webex meeting for homework help and read aloud. I will answer any homework questions and then read By the Great Horn Spoon aloud with students for whatever time is remaining.

Science
Students are encouraged to watch the video about the differences between fruits and vegetables.

FACTS TEST - Set a timer for 5 minutes. When the time is up, have the student stop. Send me the grade.
VOLUME QUIZ - Administer the quiz. Grade using the key sent via email and then send me the final grade.

Writing
Students need to write a biliography using the white bibliography cards they made at the beginning of the reserach paper project. Before beginning, please read the information sheet sent via email.

History
Make Way for Sam Houston is a biography that supplements our history text. It is optional.

Science
Print out the Fruit or Vegetable chart sent via email. Have your student identify which part of the plant the food comes from and then determine whether each is a fruit or a vegetable.

Writing

RESEARCH PAPER WAX MUSEUM SPIEL: Please thoroughly read through the notes I sent via email before beginning. This should be a 30-45 second presentation that is practiced enough that it can be mostly done from memory, although students may use a note card for reference--NOT TO READ FROM! The notes include an example spiel.

OPTIONAL MEMORY WORK:

Geography: We'll continue memorizing our states and capitals. A hard copy of the map can be found behind the "memory" tab in your child's binder. Additional maps, as well as MP3s of the song, are available at this link: Geography Resources.

History: Students will memorize 21 key dates this year. The key dates have accompanying jingles that do not have to be memorized, but will help students remember the dates and the corresponding events. We will test over the first sixteen dates on 4/29:

Science
In our Webex meeting last Wednesday, we learned how to identify the two types of angiosperms (flowering plants): monocots have one cotolydedon, produce leaves with vertical veins, and have flowers with petals in multiples of 3. Dicots have two cotyledons, have leaves with branching veins, and have flowers with petals in multiples of 5. Kids can use this information to explore and examine flowers in your yard or neighborhood. If they need more of a refresher, they can Google "monocots and dicots for kids" or review the Webex lesson.

TUESDAY NOTES:

Math
When I looked at the lessons for this week, I wanted to schedule the ones that needed more hands-on work for home days and the ones that I felt I could adequately teach via Webex on Monday and Wednesday. For that reason, they skip around between volume and tesselations. The tesselations lessons are optional. I had originally taken them out of our schedule for the year due to CTP testing, but since we now have time, I added them back in. They are fun, and the kids usually enjoy them!

Writing
Students need to finish their body paragraph rough drafts by Wednesday, but they do not need to turn them in until they have completed their introductions and conclusions. Please submit the enitre rough draft of the paper to me by Sunday. For the introduction and conclusion, please refer to the information sheet/checklist sent via email.

History

Students may send me pictures of flowers they find to include in the slide show for our Wednesday Webex meeting if they would like.

RESEARCH PAPER INTRODUCTION AND CONCLUSION: Please thoroughly read through the notes, the checklist and the pages of sample intros and conclusions I sent via email before beginning. Submit the enitre rough draft, including the intro, conclusion, and body paragraphs, all at one time by Sunday evening. Students may either type this paper or handwrite it. Please note that if you type the paper, you should highlight repeating/refelcting words between the intro and final clincher and underline any dress-ups, but you do NOT need to label them. (I should be able to recognize what they are.) You also do not need to attach the checklist in either case.
