DISCIPLESHIP: This month, we'll be focusing on the virtues of responsibility and discipline. Being responsible means doing the things you are expected to do and accepting the consequences--good or bad-- that result from your actions. Discipline is controlling the impulses would otherwise that cause you to do things you know or wrong or to avoid doing the things that you know you should do. These two virtues go hand-in-hand, as responsibility takes great discipline.
MATH:

- Review preciously learned concepts in preparation for next week's test.
SPELLING:
- Assess mastery of words spelled with the sound of /ŭl/ spelled LE.
- Learn to analyze the different spellings of words with the sound of /ŭl/.
GRAMMAR:
- Know what the degrees of adjectives are (simple, comparative, and superlative) and how to properly use both regular and irregular forms.
- Know how to identify and correct double negatives.
- Be able to properly classify a pattern 4 sentence.
WRITING/VOCABULARY:
- Know the components of an essay (introduction with a topic sentence and dramatic opener, supporting paragraphs, and a conclusion that restates the topic and includes a final clincher).
- Learn the meanings of four new vocabulary words and be able to properly use them when writing.
VOCABULARY:
1. Cut out the SHEET of vocab cards for this week's lesson. Do not cut out the individual cards. Hole punch it, and place it behind the "Writing & Grammar" tab.
2. Study the definitions and the parts of speech for each word. Color the picture on the front of the card. (This is an especially helpful step for kids who are visual and/or kinesthetic learners.)

4. On the reverse side of the card, students should fill in the blank with the word and read the sentence. Then, they should write an original sentence with the word that is significantly different from the sentence given. You might have to help your child with this part. Students may use the dictionary to find a sample sentence.
5. If possible, students should write at least one synonym and one antonym for each word, using a dictionary or a thesaurus if necessary.

- Learn the basic anatomy of the brain and understand the major functions that each part of the brain controls.
- Review for next week's test.
GEOGRAPHY:
- Develop a heart of compassion for the peoples of the world who don't yet know Christ.
- Memorize the names and locations of the provinces of Canada.
- Know the location and unique features of Greenland.
MEMORY WORK:
Scripture: We'll spend the year working on our scripture memorization of Psalm 27 (NIV). Our intent with scripture memory is for students to hide God’s word deep in their hearts so that they can call upon it for comfort, reassurance, and strength in times of trouble. With that in mind, we will not be testing over this scripture, but we will be reciting it together as a school every morning during assembly time.
Geography: We're working on memorizing the names and locations of the countries of South America. A hard copy of the map can be found behind the "memory" tab in your child's binder. Additional maps, as well as MP3s of the song, are available at this link: Geography Resources.
History: Students will memorize 21 key dates this year. The key dates have accompanying jingles that do not have to be memorized, but will help students remember the dates and the corresponding events. We will test over the first sixteen dates on 3/2:
