TUESDAY NOTES:
Math
Tomorrow's quiz will include the following vocabulary questions (with a word bank), so be sure your student knows (and more importantly understands) these:
- quadrilateral - four-sided figure
- parallelogram - a figure with exactly two sets of parallel sides
- trapezoid - a figure with only one set of parallel lines
- rhombus - a figure that has four sides of equal length
- rectangle - a figure that has four right angles
- square - a figure with four right angles AND four sides of equal length
Writing
Students need to write a topic sentence for each of the three body paragraphs. Please refer to the information sheet sent via email. Please email the sentences to me, so that I can edit them if necessary, and email them back.
Optional Reading Project
Last week, students should have finished reading Island of the Blue Dolphins, a story about a 12-year-old Native American girl named Karana, who was left behind alone on her island home off the coast of California when the rest of her tribe left to escape marauders. It was many, many years before she saw another human. Since we are now isolated like Karana--although in a much different way--students may opt to write an account of what this season of stay-at-home has been like for a kid. We're all a part of history, so it can be something special to save for future generations to read and learn from! They can document what is the same and what is different about Karana's isolation and our current situation. This can be an ongoing project or a one-time paper.

We are finishing our history textbook this week.
Science
I'm encouraging students to get out and explore as much as possible durng this unit. Experiencing the wonder and beauty of God's creation is the greatest teacher of botany!.

THURSDAY NOTES:Writing
RESEARCH PAPER BODY PARAGRAPHS: Due in a couple of weeks after we write the intro and conclusion. Students may either type this paper or handwrite it. Either way, please submit it to me as a pdf. (See notes below for an easy way to submit a pdf of a written document if you have an iphone). I will print the paper, edit it, and return it to you as a pdf. Please read over it carefully to make sure all of the dress-ups are included. I sent the rough checklist via email. Please note that if you type the paper, you should underline all of the dress-ups, but you do NOT need to label them. (I should be able to recognize what they are.) You also do not need to attach the checklist in either case.
Sending a pdf if you have an iphone:
1. Open the Notes app (it comes standard on iphones)
2. Click on the "write" box in the lower, right-hand corner. It looks like a square with a diagonal stick in it.
3. Click on the camera icon.
4. Click "scan documents."
5. Take a picture of the first page.
6. Drag the dots on the corner of the frame to adjust scan size if necessary.
7. Click on "keep scan."
8. Repeat for the remainder of the pages.
9. When you are finished, click "save" in the bottom, right-hand corner of your screen.
10. Next, hit "done" in the top, right-hand corner.
11. Click on the send document icon in the top, right-hand corner (looks like a rectangle with an arrow poiting up.)

OPTIONAL MEMORY WORK:
Geography: We'll continue memorizing our states and capitals. A hard copy of the map can be found behind the "memory" tab in your child's binder. Additional maps, as well as MP3s of the song, are available at this link: Geography Resources.
History: Students will memorize 21 key dates this year. The key dates have accompanying jingles that do not have to be memorized, but will help students remember the dates and the corresponding events. We will test over the first sixteen dates on 4/29:
