MATH:
  • Assess mastery of ratios.
  • Estimate and measure angles.
  • Tell direction in relation to an 8-point compass.
  • Determine the angle between various points on the compass.
  • Recognize that vertically opposite angles of intersecting lines are equal.
  • Recognize that adjacent angles on a straight line add up to 180 degrees.
  • Recognize that all angles around the intersection of lines add up to 360 degrees.
  • Find unknown angles involving vertically involving vertically opposite angles, angles formed by lines intersecting at a point on a straight line, and angles formed by lines intersecting at a point.
  • Work toward mastering division facts.
MATH FACTS:
Please make copies of the four math facts pages (A-D) that were sent home in binders (inside front pocket). These are master copies. You will use these all year. We'll be using sheet A (addition) for the first few weeks. Here are the instructions for administering facts practice sheets:
1. Set a timer for five minutes.
2. When the five minutes is up, if your child has not finished, please mark the place where he/she left off, and then have the student finish the sheet.
3. Parents, please use the key sent home to check your child's work. Have him/her make any corrections.
3. Turn the sheet in as homework on the next school day. I will take it as a homework completion grade.

SPELLING:
  • Assess mastery of words with the sound of /cŭl/ spelled CAL.
  • Learn to spell words with the sound of /ŭl/ spelled IL.
GRAMMAR:
  • Know that a complex sentence is one complete sentence coupled with a with a subordinate clause.
  • Classify pattern 2 sentences.
WRITING/VOCABULARY:
  • Write a factual paper about the Declaration of Independence.
READING:
  • Learn about colonial life and the American Revolution through the reading of Johnny Tremain.
  • Engage in meaningful Socratic discussion.
  • Be able to summarize a passage through oral narration.
  • Increase vocabulary through exposure to new and unfamiliar words.
LATIN:
  • Assess mastery of previously learned vocabulary words, chapters, and maxims.
  • Memorize ten new vocabulary words, a new maxim, and the "video" second conjugation chart.
HISTORY:
  • Know that George Washington was appointed to lead the Continental Army.
  • Know that Thomas Jefferson drafted the Declaration of Independence.
  • Understand the global impact of the Declaration and its historical importance and that it was adopted on July 4, 1776.
SCIENCE: 
  • Know the main components of blood and the purpose of each component.
    GEOGRAPHY:
    • Develop a heart of compassion for the peoples of the world who don't yet know Christ.
    • Assess mastery of the names and locations of the countries of Central America.
    MEMORY WORK:
    Scripture: We'll spend the year working on our scripture memorization of Psalm 27 (NIV). Our intent with scripture memory is for students to hide God’s word deep in their hearts so that they can call upon it for comfort, reassurance, and strength in times of trouble. With that in mind, we will not be testing over this scripture, but we will be reciting it together as a school every morning during assembly time. 

    Geography: We're working on memorizing the names and locations of the countries of Central America. A hard copy of the map can be found behind the "memory" tab in your child's binder. Additional maps, as well as MP3s of the song, are available at this link: Geography Resources.

    History: Students will memorize a portion of the Declaration of Independence (bolded portion only) and 21 key dates. The key dates have accompanying jingles that do not have to be memorized, but will help students remember the dates and the corresponding events. We will test over the first ten dates on 12/2:
