DISCIPLESHIP: This month, we'll continue to focus on the virtue of responsibility. Being responsible means doing the things you are expected to do and accepting the consequences--good or bad-- that result from your actions. We'll also look at the virtue of peacefulness.

MATH:
  • Memorize some fraction/decimal equivalencies.
  • Solve word problems involving finding the percentage for a part of a whole.
  • Practice previously learned concepts related to percentage.
  • Find the value for a percentage part given the value for the whole.
  • Be able to plot and identify points on a coordinate plane.
SPELLING:
  • Assess mastery of words with the sound of /ŭs/ spelled US.
  • Learn to spell words with the sound of /ŭs/ spelled OUS.
GRAMMAR:
  • Know how to use proofreading symbols for editing.
  • Be able to identify capitalization, punctuation, spelling, and usage errors in non-fiction texts. 
WRITING/VOCABULARY:
  • Know the components of an essay (introduction with a topic sentence and dramatic opener, supporting paragraphs, and a conclusion that restates the topic and includes a final clincher).
READING:
  • Engage in meaningful Socratic discussion.
  • Be able to summarize a passage through oral narration.
  • Identify virtues in characters in Amos Fortune.
  • Increase vocabulary through exposure to new and unfamiliar words.
LATIN:
  • Assess mastery of previously learned vocabulary words and maxims.
  • Memorize ten new vocabulary words and one new maxim.
  • Know that the accusative case can be an object of the preposition.
HISTORY:
  • Know that the Industrial Revolution was and be familiar with some of the key inventions that sparked it.
HISTORY JOURNAL ASSIGNMENT: 
Choose one of the following inventions/innovations and do some brief internet research to answer the questions that follow:

Questions:
1. Who invented it or whose idea was it?
2. When was it invented?
3. Where was it invented?
4. How did it work? What did it do? (2-3 sentences)
5. How did this invention or innovation (new way of doing something) change the world? (2-3 sentences).
6. Include a picture or drawing of the invention you chose or a picture to represent the innovation.


SCIENCE: 
  • Know what the five (or six) sense are and appreciate how God gave them to us for protection and pleasure.
    GEOGRAPHY:
    • Develop a heart of compassion for the peoples of the world who don't yet know Christ.
    • Memorize the names and locations of the provinces of Canada.
    • Know the location and unique features of Greenland.
    MEMORY WORK:
    Scripture: We'll spend the year working on our scripture memorization of Psalm 27 (NIV). Our intent with scripture memory is for students to hide God’s word deep in their hearts so that they can call upon it for comfort, reassurance, and strength in times of trouble. With that in mind, we will not be testing over this scripture, but we will be reciting it together as a school every morning during assembly time. 

    Geography: We'll test over the names and locations of the countries of South America. A hard copy of the map can be found behind the "memory" tab in your child's binder. Additional maps, as well as MP3s of the song, are available at this link: Geography Resources.

    History: Students will memorize 21 key dates this year. The key dates have accompanying jingles that do not have to be memorized, but will help students remember the dates and the corresponding events. We will test over the first sixteen dates on 3/2:
