Math
1. Math facts practice (if not exempt).
2. Students complete review packet (sent via email) independently. Students do not need to work all the problems in this packet, although they certainly can if they want to (or you want them to). If they know and understand how to complete a section, they can just do one or two problems and move on. It should help you figure out which concepts/skills students need to spend time focusing on to prepare for tomorrow's test. Parents check work using key on the back page of the packet and help students with corrections if necessary.
Grammar
Classify sentences for Ch26, L1.
Writing
Continue working on note cards for research paper. Remember that you need a minimum of eight solid facts for each topic. More is better. Due Monday at 9 a.m. Submit by spreading cards on a table and snapping a picture. Email or text the photo(s) to me.
Reading
1. Read Ch1-2 of Island of the Blue Dolphins.
2. Explain to someone what happened and discuss any thoughts or questions you have about the reading.

Play the CD for Ch27 and recite along with it 2 times.
Science

TUESDAY NOTES:
Math
1. Administer subtraction facts test sent via email. Set a timer for 5 minutes. Have them stop at the end of five minutes and grade the test. Any problems not completed should be counted wrong. NOTE: All students need to take this test, even those who are exempt from submitting facts homework. Grade student work and send me the grade via email.
2. Administer math unit test sent via email. Students cannot use notes or books, and parents may only answer clarifying questions; they may not help the student with the test. Grade it using the key, write the grade in the space provided at the top of the test. Then have student make corrections, and give one half point credit for each problem that has been fixed correctly. Write the new grade below the original grade and submit to me via email. (For example, if the test has 35 possible points, and the student misses 8 problems the first time, the original grade would be 27/35 or 77%. If all problems are fixed correctly, the student would get an additional half point for each problem, so the new score would be 31/35 or 89%. NOTE: If a student gets the problem correct, but it is missing a label or has an incorrect label, he/she will lose 1/2 point for that problem instead of a full point and can earn back a 1/4 point if they correct it.
WEDNESDAY NOTES:

1. Have student number their papers the way I taught them. Remind them to write in cursive.

3. Dictate the last four sentences on p123. Read the first sentence one time only (see the note on p24 about this). Have the student repeat it back to you and begin writing. After about 30 seconds, you may repeat it once more if necessary, but that is all. Repeat the process with the next three sentences.

We will do a Punnett squares activity together during the Webex meeting. I will take it as a science classwork grade during the meeting.
THURSDAY NOTES:
Vocabulary
1. Cut out the SHEET of vocab cards for this week's lesson. Do not cut out the individual cards. Hole punch it, and place it behind the "Writing & Grammar" tab in your binder.
2. Study the definitions and the parts of speech for each word. Color the picture on the front of the card. (This is an especially helpful step for kids who are visual and/or kinesthetic learners.)
3. Use a dictionary to look up the word.

4. On the reverse side of the card, students should fill in the blank with the word and read the sentence. Then, they should write an original sentence with the word that is significantly different from the sentence given. You might have to help your child with this part. Students may use the dictionary to find a sample sentence.
5. If possible, students should write at least one synonym and one antonym for each word, using a dictionary or a thesaurus if necessary.
6. Look up the etymology of the word in the dictionary. Discuss the meaning. See if you can brainstorm some other words that come from the same root or roots (derivatives).

OPTIONAL MEMORY WORK:
Geography: We'll continue memorizing our states and capitals. A hard copy of the map can be found behind the "memory" tab in your child's binder. Additional maps, as well as MP3s of the song, are available at this link: Geography Resources.
History: Students will memorize 21 key dates this year. The key dates have accompanying jingles that do not have to be memorized, but will help students remember the dates and the corresponding events. We will test over the first sixteen dates on 4/29:
