Introduce prepositions.		Copy the prepositions (not the other words; just the prepositions themselves) from the preposition flow jingle (Jingle 9) onto a piece of notebook paper. MATH:
  • Divide a 3- or 4-digit number by a 2-digit number resulting in a 2-digit quotient.
  • Review previously learned concepts.
  • Review fourth-grade fraction concepts.
  • Assess mastery of concepts related to multiplication and long division.
  • Improve speed and accuracy of multiplication facts.
SPELLING:
  • Learn to spell words ending in "ain."
  • Assess mastery of words ending in "ive."
GRAMMAR:
  • Identify, classify and diagram prepositional phrases in a pattern 1 sentence. 
  • Know that prepositions must include an object of the preposition.
  • Know that prepositional phrases can modify nouns or verbs.
WRITING/VOCABULARY:
  • Learn the definitions of the four vocabulary words and be able to correctly use each word in an original sentence.
  • Practice dictionary skills.
  • Know what 5-senses descriptions are, and use them when describing events in writing.
READING:
  • Be able to summarize a passage through oral narration.
  • Expand vocabulary.
  • Identify virtues, as well as elements of truth, beauty and goodness, in reading passages.
LATIN:
  • Learn ten new vocabulary words and a chapter maxim.
  • Begin memorizing the names of the Latin cases and use the mnemonic device "Never Give Davus Any Apples."
  • Know that Latin does not include any article adjectives.
HISTORY:
  • Know the basic outline of the events and key figures related to the founding of the Plymouth Colony.
  • Know that the Pilgrims first settled in Holland before coming to the New World.
  • Know that nearly half of the colonists died during the first year.
  • Gain an understanding of the challenges, difficulties, and dangers associated with establishing colonies in the New World.
SCIENCE: 
  • Assess mastery of concepts related to the history of anatomy & physiology, cells, and the skeletal system.
  • Know the purpose of tendons.
  • Begin memorizing the major muscles in the body.
GEOGRAPHY:
  • Develop a heart of compassion for the peoples of the world who don't yet know Christ.
  • Continue memorizing the names and locations of the islands of the West Indies.
  • Be familiar with the geographical features, architecture, and culture of the West Indies.
MEMORY WORK:
Geography: We'll be working on memorizing the islands of the West Indies for several weeks. This is a challenging map, so be sure to practice it every day! A hard copy of the map can be found behind the "memory" tab in your child's binder. Additional maps, as well as MP3s of the song, are available at this link: Geography Resources.

History: Students will memorize a portion of the Declaration of Independence (bolded portion only - recitation on 11/10) and 21 key dates. The key dates have accompanying jingles that do not have to be memorized, but will help students memorize the dates and retain details about the events to which they correspond.

My son, if you accept my words
    and store up my commands within you,
2 turning your ear to wisdom
    and applying your heart to understanding—
3 indeed, if you call out for insight
    and cry aloud for understanding,
4 and if you look for it as for silver
    and search for it as for hidden treasure,
5 then you will understand the fear of the Lord
    and find the knowledge of God.
6 For the Lord gives wisdom;
    from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.
