BIBLE/VIRTUES: This month, we'll be focusing on the virtues of courage and respect. When the Pilgrims left Holland for America, it required a tremendous leap of faith and must have taken an extraordinary amount of courage. Once they arrived here, it took even more courage to face the challenges of a strange and difficult new life, fraught with hardship. We'll aslo In addition, we will spend time discussing the importance of respect for God, respect for our fellow classmates and friends, and respect for our leaders and those in positions of authority.
MATH:
- Divide a whole number by tens.
- Divide a 2-digit or 3-digit whole number by a 2-digit whole number where the quotient is a 1-digit number.

KEY WORD OUTLINING : A key word outline (KWO) is essentially a way for a student to summarize a source text. The rules for key word outlining for this assignment are: 1. Students are limited to three key words for each sentence in this story, but they are welcome to use as many pictures, abbreviations, symbols, etc., as they would like for each sentence. 2. Each Roman numeral represents a new paragraph. (The Roman numerals represent the topic sentence for each paragraph.) 3. The Arabic numbers underneath the Roman numeral are for each of the other sentences in the paragraph. If your student has a difficult time retelling the story from the outline, please have him or her go back and work on making the outline understandable.

LATIN:
- Review previously learned vocabulary words, charts, and maxims for upcoming test.

- Know that the Pilgrims were separatists who wanted to distance themselves from the Church of England.
- Know that they spent 11 years in Holland prior to coming to America.
- Know that the Pilgrims landed in Plymouth in modern-day Massachusetts.
SCIENCE:
- Assess mastery of materials in lessons 1 and 2.
- Begin memorizing the major muscles of the body.
- Know the three types of muscles in the body: skeletal, smooth, and cardiac.
- Know the difference between voluntary and involuntary muscles.
SCIENCE TEST: The science test will include the exact questions/information on the study guide. Please make sure your child understands that the essay questions require them to write in complete sentences. This is a difficult concept for many students to master, so you might want to have them practice at home before the test.

- Begin to memorize the names and locations of the islands of the West Indies.
- Be familiar with the climate and geological features of the islands in the West Indies.
- Be familiar with the term archipelago and know that it is a group of islands or an island chain.
MEMORY WORK:
Geography: We'll continue our study of the islands in the West Indies (Caribbean). A hard copy of the maps can be found behind the "memory" tab in your child's binder. Additional maps, as well as MP3s of the song, are available at this link: Geography Resources.
History: Students will memorize a portion of the Declaration of Independence (bolded portion only) and 21 key dates.The key dates have accompanying jingles that do not have to be memorized, but will help students memorize the dates and retain details about the events to which they correspond. We will test over the first six dates on 9/28:
