1. Creation – The Beginning
In the beginning, God was there
Crafting the heavens and earth from thin air.
Firmament, sun, moon, and stars, plants and trees,
Birds, fish, and animals, Adam and Eve.
In His own image He created man,
And because of their fall He concocted a plan
To rescue mankind by His infinite love:
Purchase salvation through the blood of his Son.
2. The Sumerians – 2300 B.C.
From the rich fertile crescent in Mesopotamia,
Came a people group known to us as the Sumerians.
With cuneiform writing and a ziggurat, too,
Near B.C. 2300, this civilization grew.
3. Abraham - 1922 B.C.
In 1922 B.C.
The Lord called Abraham to leave
The land, called Ur, he’d always known
to head for a land he’d soon be shown
4. Hammurabi – 1792 B.C.
In the year 1792 B.C.,
A Babylonian king named Hammurabi
Developed a now-famous code of law
With 300 rules to help men get along.
5. The Exodus – 1491 B.C.
God’s chosen people, the Hebrews, had lived
In Egypt as slaves, for 400 years.
So God raised up Moses, an exile, to lead them
Ten awful plagues later, Pharoah granted their freedom.
Then into the desert, the Israelites fled,
But the king changed his mind and pursued them instead.
With a sea up ahead and Pharoah’s army behind,
The Hebrews were in an impossible bind.
But then God miraculously parted the sea,
And showed his great power in 1491 B.C.
6. King Tut – 1333 B.C.
In 1333 B.C.,
Young Tut became Pharaoh, you see.
He briefly ruled Egypt before he died,
And was laid in a tomb with great wealth at his side.
7. David - 1055 B.C.
David, a man after God’s own heart,
Killed Goliath with only a stone, for a start,
He became king of Israel in B.C. 1055,
And though he made some mistakes, served the Lord all his life.
My son, if you accept my words
and store up my commands within you,
2 turning your ear to wisdom
and applying your heart to understanding—
3 indeed, if you call out for insight
and cry aloud for understanding,
4 and if you look for it as for silver
and search for it as for hidden treasure,
5 then you will understand the fear of the Lord
and find the knowledge of God.
6 For the Lord gives wisdom;
from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.
7 He holds success in store for the upright,
he is a shield to those whose walk is blameless,
8 for he guards the course of the just
and protects the way of his faithful ones.
9 Then you will understand what is right and just
and fair—every good path.
10 For wisdom will enter your heart,
