SPELLING:
- Assess mastery of words containing the sound of /awt/ spelled AUGHT.
- Learn to spell words containing the sound of /awt/ spelled OUGHT and words containing two hard "Cs."
GRAMMAR/WRITING/VOCABULARY:
- Write a properly structured 5-paragraph research paper that includes an introduction and conclusion as well as elements of style.
- Thoroughly review previously learned concepts including: parts of speech, punctuation and capitalization, formatting quotations, possessive nouns, pronoun cases, types of sentences, concrete/abstract nouns, tense, common/proper nouns, singular/plural nouns, types of sentences (simple, complex, or compound) and point of view.
READING:

LATIN:

- Gain an understanding of what Texas and the Austin area were like when Texas became a state.
- Be familiar with the reasons for the Mexican War and know that The United States gained several Southwestern states at the end of the conflict.
SCIENCE:
- Be familiar with the components of the lymphatic system.
- Understand the difference between innate and adaptive/acquired immunity.
- Understand the differences between and the roles of antigens and antibodies.
- Know how vaccines work.
- Know that Alexander Fleming accidentally discovered penicillin.
- Know that cells in the body reproduce by dividing and specialize into different types of tissues and organs while in the womb.
GEOGRAPHY:
- Develop a heart of compassion for the peoples of the world who don't yet know Christ.
- Assess mastery of the names and locations of the 50 states.
- Assess mastery of the names of the state capitals.
- Begin learning the names of the Mexican states that border the Unittee States of America.
Geography: We are currently memorizing the names and locations of the Mexican states that border the U.S. states, as well as Distrito Federal and the states on the Yucatan Peninsula. A hard copy of this map can be found behind the "memory" tab in your child's binder. We are using the "Mexican Hat Dance" song in class to help us learn the border states.
