MATH:
  • Review concepts from Ch1-2.
  • Divide a three-digit number by a two-digit number.
  • Practice dividing.
  • Assess mastery of multiplication facts.
  • Learn x10s, x11s, and x12 facts.
  • Review basic concepts related to fractions.
SPELLING:
  • Assess mastery of words ending in AIN
  • Learn to spell words ending in IVE.
GRAMMAR:
  • Know what a prepositional phrase is, and be able to recognize the most common prepositions.
  • Classify and diagram pattern 1 sentences that include prepositional phrases.
  • Identify prepositions independent of the classification process.
  • Distinguish between prepositions and adverbs.
  • Use prepositional phrases as sentence openers.
WRITING/VOCABULARY:
  • Know that all narrative stories have three main components: characters/setting, plot/conflict, and climax/resolution.
  • Understand what constitutes rising action and falling action.
  • Know how to read proofreading symbols.
READING:
  • Summarize a passage through oral narration.
  • Expand vocabulary.
  • Identify virtues, as well as elements of truth, beauty and goodness, in reading passages.
LATIN:
  • Review all previously learned maxims, vocabulary words, and charts to prepare for test.
LATIN TEST: Next week's Latin test will include both chapter maxims, the "mensa" and "amo" charts, and all 40 vocabulary words from chapters 1-4, as well as some bonus questions. Students will have a word bank for the vocab words, and the charts will be partially filled in. Students will have to fill in the gaps on the charts from memory. We've been practicing this in class and on our weekly quizzes.   

HISTORY:
  • Be familiar with the major differences and similarities between the Pilgrims and the Puritans. 
SCIENCE: 
  • Assess mastery of concepts related to the history of anatomy and physiology and the skeletal system.
  • Begin memorizing the major muscles of the body. 
SCIENCE TEST: The test will include only what is on the study guide. There are no additional questions. Using the documents link above, you can access blank copies of the diagrams that students can use to practice. 

GEOGRAPHY:
  • Develop a heart of compassion for the peoples of the world who don't yet know Christ.
  • Learn the names and locations of some of the islands in the West Indies.
  • Know some facts about and features of Aruba, Barbados, and Trinidad and Tobago.
MEMORY WORK:
Geography: We'll be working on the continents and oceans for the first few weeks. A hard copy of the map can be found behind the "memory" tab in your child's binder. Additional maps, as well as MP3s of the song, are available at this link: Geography Resources.

History: Students will memorize a portion of the Declaration of Independence (bolded portion only) and 21 key dates. The key dates have accompanying jingles that do not have to be memorized, but will help students memorize the dates and retain details about the events to which they correspond:

Poetry: This quarter, we'll work on memorizing and reciting Proverbs 2:1-11 (NIV): 

 

My son, if you accept my words
    and store up my commands within you,
2 turning your ear to wisdom
    and applying your heart to understanding—
3 indeed, if you call out for insight
    and cry aloud for understanding,
4 and if you look for it as for silver
    and search for it as for hidden treasure,
5 then you will understand the fear of the Lord
