MATH:
- Review measurement concepts.
- Convert measurements of length, weight, liquid volume, or time involving fractions or mixed numbers from a larger unit to a smaller unit.
- Find the area of rectangles with fractional side lengths.
- Find the area of a triangle when the height is given inside the triangle.
- Improve speed and accuracy of division facts.
SPELLING:
- Assess mastery of words containing the sound of /cul/ spelled CAL.
- Learn to spell words with the sound of /ul/ spelled IL.
GRAMMAR:
- Classify and diagram pattern two sentences.
- Compose a pattern two sentence.
- Identify and correct fragments.
- Identify and properly punctuate compound sentences.
- Identify and properly punctuate simple sentences with compound parts.
- Write topic sentences and clinchers.
- Identify key facts in a passage and use them to write a summarized report.
- Learn four new vocabulary words and be able to properly use them when writing.
GEORGE WASHINGTON PAPER: Rememebr that this is a summary and it should only include facts that are directly related to the topic sentence. If the chosen topic is Washington's presidency, for example, students should not inclue facts about the Constitutional Convention.
READING:
- Summarize a passage through oral narration.
- Identify virtues, as well as elements of truth, beauty and goodness, in reading passages.
- Improve reading comprehension.
- Assess mastery of all previously learned words and maxims, 4 principal parts of verbs, and noun cases.
- Begin to memorize the second-conjugation verb chart.
- Know some first-declension masculine exceptions and understand how to properly use asjectives with them.
HISTORY:
- Be familiar with the main causes of and key figures involved in the American Revolution.
- Know the names of some women who played key roles during the Revolutionary War period.
- Improve reecitation skills.
SCIENCE:
- Know the components of blood and the roles they each play.
- Know the primary functions and roles of blood in the body.
GEOGRAPHY:
- Develop a heart of compassion for the peoples of the world who don't yet know Christ.
- Continue memorizing the names and locations of the countries of Central America.
MEMORY WORK:
Geography: A hard copy of the maps can be found behind the "memory" tab in your child's binder. Additional maps, as well as MP3s of the song, are available at this link: Geography Resources.
History: Students will memorize a portion of the Declaration of Independence (bolded portion only) and 21 key dates. The key dates have accompanying jingles that do not have to be memorized, but will help students memorize the dates and retain details about the events to which they correspond.

DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE EXCERPT (Recitation on 11/10):
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.--That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, --That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Poetry: Our second-quarter poem is The New Colossus. Students will recite it for a grade on 11/17:
